Anthea Spinks is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in international programmes, particularly in humanitarian and conflict-affected contexts.
Currently, she serves as the Director of Community Development for the City of Melbourne, leading teams that engage the diverse communities who live, work, study, and visit the city.
Before this, she held the position of Director of Programs for Oxfam Australia, overseeing units that implement international programs across 25 countries, First Peoples’ programming and advocacy in Australia, and the Policy, Advocacy, Campaigns, and Media teams.
Ms. Spinks has also worked for World Vision in various roles, both internationally and in Australia, covering emergencies in places such as Nepal, Haiti, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, the Horn of Africa, and Southern Africa.
In addition, she has been a RedR Australia Humanitarian Training Coordinator, supporting the development of humanitarian professionals across the Asia and Pacific regions, as well as in Australia. She was an inaugural board member of the Emergency Action Alliance (EAA) and has been affiliated with the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership since its inception. She has also served on a range of Deakin University Curriculum Advisory boards since 2015.
Ms. Spinks holds a BA Hons in Political Science from the University of Sydney and an MA in International Development from the University of Melbourne.
