A landmark new initiative aimed at connecting diaspora experts working on research relevant to humanitarian crises with their counterparts in crisis-affected countries is being launched by the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership (CHL) for a range of crisis settings.

Led by diaspora and tailored to each crisis-affected setting, the new networks will connect diaspora academic research experts from across the globe working on issues related to humanitarian crises, and those from the crisis-affected setting. By facilitating connections and collaborations, the networks are envisaged to help support in-country colleagues during and in the aftermath of humanitarian crises, and diaspora will benefit from the expertise, engagement and lived experience of colleagues in crisis settings.

Networks are now being established for a range of diaspora communities and in response to a range of crises, heralding an innovative approach to collaboration and convening. Once established and operational, the networks will also connect with each other to share learnings and exchange ideas relevant across different contexts.

Lebanon pilot project paves the way

The first network will be established for Lebanon. Proudly supported by seed funding from the UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub (UKHIH), the Lebanon network is convened in partnership with the Office of Research at the American University of Beirut.

CHL now invites Lebanese diaspora working in any relevant research area, and researchers in Lebanon, to register to join this emerging network. Colleagues of all levels are welcome, but senior experts are particularly urged to connect.

New Syria Network announced

CHL is also pleased to announce establishment of a diaspora research network for Syria, at this pivotal moment in the country’s history. Syrian diaspora working on research relevant to the humanitarian crisis, impact or humanitarian response are invited to register their interest.

Future Networks Planned

Additional networks will be established and announced shortly. Organisations interested in partnering with CHL to establish or to fund a diaspora research network should contact info@cfhl.org.au
