Deakin University’s Development-Humanitarian Research Group (DHRG) and the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership presented Professionalisation in Humanitarianism: Debates and Opportunities as part of the DHRG Development and Humanitarian Dialogues seminar series.
What does it mean to be a humanitarian worker? For several decades, the humanitarian sector has pursued increased professionalisation through standards and guidelines, competency frameworks, and training and education. This seminar explored the implications of university-level humanitarian training for a shifting sector and its contribution to the humanitarian endeavour.
This event enabled participants to engage with new research, connect with academics working in the humanitarian and development space, and reflect on how we should be preparing the next generation of humanitarian workers.
