Home Research and policyThe Humanitarian Leader

The Humanitarian Leader, a bilingual journal in English and French, is an independent voice for the humanitarian sector. We tell stories that challenge our collective assumptions and present concepts that help make humanitarian aid more just, equitable and effective.

Humanitarian Leader authors include researchers, activists, volunteers and operational practitioners. It provides a platform for non-peer-reviewed articles and allows authors to test ideas and insights in an accessible academic setting. All papers are published by openjournals@Deakin.

Papers should broadly engage with issues of humanitarian leadership, and/or transforming systems of support for humanitarian crises.

Launched in August 2019, the journal will traditionally publish 10 papers online in English and French each year, with an annual print and online edition released in December. In 2023, the Humanitarian Leader/Leader Humanitaire recorded more than 32,000 downloads and abstract reviews.

The Humanitarian Leader/Leader Humanitaire is a Diamond Open Access journal – we do not charge fees to authors or readers.

The Humanitarian Leader is made possible with the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The contents are the responsibility of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of USAID or the United States Government.
