A view of a damaged area in Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, after being hit by the earthquake and tsunami. On 28 September 2018, a shallow earthquake struck off the Minahasa Peninsula, Indonesia, with its epicentre located in the mountainous Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi. The quake was located 77 km (48 mi) away from the provincial capital Palu. Following the mainshock, a tsunami alert was issued. A localised tsunami struck Palu, sweeping shore-lying houses and buildings on its way. The combined effects of the earthquake and tsunami has led to many deaths. Many more are displaced or homeless and in need of help.
