CHL Director Mary Ana McGlasson is attending the Global Security Forum in Doha, Qatar, this week, to speak on the evolving role of humanitarian organisations in conflict zones.

The 2025 Global Security Forum (GSF) is hosted by The Soufan Center and the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) and addresses the theme: “The Influence of Non-State Actors and Their Role in Shaping Global Security.”

Ass/Prof McGlasson says she’s delighted to return to Doha to contribute to discussions about the challenges of delivering aid amid shifting geopolitical dynamics, access restrictions, and the increased targeting of aid workers.

I’m grateful to be invited to speak at the GSF to highlight the work of CHL in supporting local leaders working at the frontline of conflict zones, from Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, to Syria and Ukraine, to name just a few,” Ass/Prof McGlasson says.

“It’s vital given the nature of protracted crises and conflict in exposing structural constraints within the existing humanitarian system, that we prioritise reforms that ensure relevance, agility and accountability, and emphasise the work of local leaders.”

Ass/Prof McGlasson will appear on a panel titled ‘ Navigating Crisis: The Role of Humanitarian Organisations in Conflict Zones’ on Monday April, 28 at 1:30pm AT (approximate)/ 8:30pm AEST.

Other panellists are Ms. Joelle Germanier, Director of the Centre of Competence on Frontline Negotiations, H.E. Yousef bin Al-Khater, President of Qatar Red Crescent Society and Shelly Culbertson, Senior Policy Researcher at RAND Corporation, and is moderated by Jenifer Vaughan, Senior Media Adviser and Spokesperson for the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, United Nations.
