The first Humanitarian Leader paper for 2025 is ‘Localising decolonisation: Insights from LAC critical theory’ by Mara Tissera Luna.
In this article, Mara Tissera Luna draws on contributions from Latin American and Caribbean decolonial theory, including Black feminist theory, decoloniality, and critical geopolitics, to promote and generate the critical discussions necessary for effectively operationalising the decolonisation agenda.
Tissera Luna suggests that such alternative and innovative analyses can offer a nuanced, historically informed analysis of the root causes of the human rights issues the international aid system attempts to address, challenging the dominant view that portrays them as singular crises’ that humanitarian aid can resolve.
We are honoured to share this paper with our Spanish-speaking colleagues too, in what is our first paper published in this language.
