Dr Rachel Coghlan is a public health professional with over 20 years post-qualification experience gained in clinical practice, and in international public health research, policy and advocacy. Rachel’s PhD research explored the place of palliative care in humanitarian emergencies and crises, with a focus on armed conflict settings. Her PhD was conferred in 2023.
In 2023, Rachel was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership. She worked in the US for three months with Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Humanitarian Health in Baltimore to build the foundation for future research on palliative care in humanitarian emergencies and work on ways to engage and advocate to a wider humanitarian audience on the importance of palliative care.
Rachel a Board Director of Palliative Care Australia, an Executive Member of Australasian Palliative Link International, a founding member of the Western Pacific Palliative Care Advocacy Network, a member of the Palliative Care in Humanitarian Aid Situations and Emergencies network, and a member of the Australian COVID-19 Palliative Care Working Group.
She loves to write, and recently moved to a little plot of land in country Victoria with her two rambunctious sons, husband and friendly chocolate Labrador Billie, where she hopes to be able to breath fresh air and write a little more.
